Lead With Impact: Mastering the Art of Leading by Example

Transform your leadership style and unleash your team's potential.

Leadership is a timeless topic that often hinges on one fundamental principle: leading by example. Though widely acknowledged, this principle is frequently neglected or misunderstood in practice. Today, we delve into why leading by example stands as perhaps the most violated yet profoundly impactful principle in leadership.

As a species, we learn through mimicking others. Consider how you learned to speak before you could read and how accents vary based on your upbringing. 98% of our behavior is learned through the tribe, the people we spend the most time with. This is why the five people you spend the most time with matter—they influence your behavior, especially the alpha figure.

We're not a "monkey say, monkey do" species; rather, we're "monkey see, monkey do."

Deep down, we want to be accepted by the alpha because, in ancient times, being cast out from the tribe meant certain death. Therefore, we're hardwired to seek the acceptance of the alpha, learning everything from their example. Whether you're leading a team, a company, or a book club, understand that your example as a leader speaks volumes more than what you say.

We're not a "monkey say, monkey do" species; rather, we're "monkey see, monkey do." When seeking engagement or direction from your team, consider your actions—are you mirroring what you want from them? Success requires effort beyond what we initially think. A great leader can push you to do more so you can achieve more.
